Accessible PDF Remediation

Agendas, minutes, policies and reports published as PDFs often fail accessibility checks. We repair the tagging, reading order, headings, alt text and tables so everyone can read them and your documents meet the regulations.

Where a web page would suit better, we can convert the document instead.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do councils have to publish accessible PDFs?

Yes. PDFs published on public sector websites since September 2018 must meet the accessibility regulations unless an exemption applies, such as older documents no longer needed for current services. Agendas and minutes are usually in scope.

Should we fix the PDF or the Word file?

Ideally both. We fix the PDFs you have and show you how to set up Word so future PDFs start out accessible, which lowers the cost.

How do you test the result?

Every document is checked with the free PDF Accessibility Checker (PAC) and read through with a screen reader.

Do you also audit websites?

Yes. See our website accessibility audits.
